Charles Burrell & Sons of Therford, Norfolk were builders of steam traction engine, agricultural machinery, steam trucks and steam tram engines. 

 

Over 4000 engine's were manufactured during the life of the firm. Burrell is very famous for the magnificent showman's engine's with over 230 of which survive today. 

 

Charles Burrell operated from St Nicholas Works in Therford, which stared as a foundry and agricultural machinery works. In 1846 the company built the first steam engine. 

 

Charles Burrell & Sons employed over 350 people and exported all over the world the company then closed in 1928.

 

Charles Burrell museum opened in 1991 which is housed in the former Paint Shop Thetford which houses parts of Burrell engines, factory machinery, along with history of the Burrell Family
